Day 1 Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre
(Lunch, Dinner)

Pick up from hotels (Sabah Hotel or Sandakan Hotel) within Sandakan at 0800/0815 hrs or Sandakan Airport (BKI-SDK Malaysia Airlines MH2042 07:25/08:05 or AirAsia AK6080 07:05/07:50) and transfer to Sepilok Nature Resort. A guided tour to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabitation Center. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden boardwalk to witness the Orang Utan (Pongo Pygmaeus) feeding at 1000hrs as they swing through the trees towards the feeding platform for their food of the day. You may also encounter with 2 main Macaques, the long tailed & pig tailed Macaques. Return to reception center, to view the displays and exhibits at the Information Centre.

Return to the Resort for lunch.

Free at leisure or you may opt for your own tour (unguided) to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre's second feeding at 1500hrs or self-explore (unguided) the Plant Discovery Centre, Exhibition Room and Walk to the Canopy Walk way at the Rainforest Discovery Centre.

The Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), is a Centre for Environmental Education situated within the famous Kabili Sepilok Forest Reserve, home of orang utans of the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.

This is a place for plant lovers! Some of the most interesting plants in this garden are the native orchids (more than 250 species), slipper orchids, pitcher-plants, arid land plants, aquatic plants, economic crops, and some of the most spectacular tropical American plants, such as the bromeliads and the Venus flytrap.

In the garden, there are many colourful information panels to enhance your educational experience.

The 147 m- long sturdy, steel canopy walkway enables you to have a spectacular view of the beautiful rain forest of Sepilok from up to 28 m above the forest floor!

Walk among rainforest giants like the mengaris tree and other large dipterocarps, and experience forest life high in the canopy!

The walkway and towers are also great for bird-watchers to steal a glimpse of the resident Bornean bristleheads, one of the rarest birds in Sabah! Apart from that, there are another 250 species of birds to lookout for, including hornbills, pittas, kingfishers and broadbills.

In the evening, an hour guided night walk to the Sepilok Forest Trails to experience walking in the dark to spot animals or insects. Dinner and overnight at Sepilok Nature Resort.


Day 2 Sandakan Sightseeing / Next Destination
(Breakfast, Lunch)
After breakfast, free and easy.

At 1100hrs, depart Sepilok for a brief Sandakan Sightseeing which may include a visit to one of the following highlights: -

  • Sandakan Memorial Park
    Located within the suburb of Taman Rimba, the site of a notorious WWII prisoner-of-war camp is about 11km outside of Sandakan.

    The park, which includes a small museum, is a memorial to the thousands of Australian and British who lost their lives during the Japanese occupation. The rusting remains of an excavator, a generator and a boiler lie in their original positions, near steps leading up to a small Commemorative Pavilion.

  • Buddhist Temple "Puh Jih Syh"
    Situated on the hilltop with a commanding view of Sandakan bay, built in 1987, this ornate temple is blazed with red and gold, with writhing dragons and gold gilded Buddha. It is said that the temple protects and brings prosperity to Sandakan community.

Lunch in a local restaurant before transfer to either hotel or airport for your flight (SDK-BKI Malaysia Airlines MH 2709 14:00/14:45 or AirAsia AK6093(AK6097) 14:20/15:05).

Recommended to bring:
Personal gear, insect repellent, raincoat, hat, and sunscreen. Use good walking shoes and comfortable cotton T-shirt, long sleeve shirt and long or short pant. Don't forget to bring camera and binocular.
